KY Continuing Education Requirements

The Department of Housing, Buildings, and Construction requires that plumbing, HVAC and electrical contractors submit continuing education hours each year when they renew their license. Below is an outline of the continuing education requirements required for all licenses.

General Requirements

License holders must submit proof of at least 6 hours of continuing education each year to the Department of Housing, Buildings, and Construction Licensing Branch when renewing their license. License holders can carry forward an excess of 12 continuing education hours in the 2 successive educational years. License holders can take one or more of the following courses:

HVAC License Holders (Master/Journeyman)

  • Business
  • Job Safety
  • Codes relating to HVAC; or
  • Subject matter directly relating to the HVAC trade

Plumbing License Holders (Master/Journeyman)

  • Business
  • Job Safety
  • The Kentucky State Plumbing Code; or
  • Subject Matter directly related to the plumbing trade

Contractor’s Electric

  • Business
  • Job Safety
 
* Please note that you can only take up to 2 hours of continuing education classes in job safety practices and procedures each year.
